Investment analyst — deep tech, biotechnology and climate

I’m James Sweet-Jones. I work as an investment analyst in deep tech, where I do the technical due diligence that sits behind funding decisions. I read the science, map the patent landscape, and turning both into something an investor can act on.

My background is scientific: a PhD in deep-learning methods for drug discovery, and work spanning biotech, agri-tech, robotics and clean energy. What I keep circling back to is climate and food — the unglamorous end of deep tech, where the work that matters most is often the hardest to fund and the easiest to overlook.

This is where I write about that: what’s being built, why the money does and doesn’t flow to it, and what would have to change.
